I was contacted by Global Television's health reporter Ms Beatrice Politi today for an interview on the Family Health segment. When I told my friends with much excitement about this news, I said I only wish for two things. First, the interview would actually happen with no conflict of schedule. Second, no crashes!
The piece focuses on exercise addiction and I provided a different angle on training hard but not overdoing it. The interview and filming experience was fun and interesting. We met at the foyer of my office and drove to a nearby park. There was a nice quiet driveway leading to a parking lot so it worked out perfectly for some straightaway footage. Although it drizzled right before we started, the sun came out just in time and the pavement was dry (phew!).
We shot a bunch of different footage including me putting on my gears and skated down the driveway a few times. I picked up lots of speed easily with a nice tailwind and ever-so-slight downhill. Of course, Murphy's Law ruled the day and I crashed while braking. Good thing I didn't rip my Team WOW skinsuit! The cameraman wanted to capture the sound of the bearings so he set down the camera on the ground and had me skate close to the camera. I was a little nervous that I would kick up gravel but fortunately it did not happen. The best part was when he tried to shoot some footage of me from a moving van. Motor pacing anyone?
Here is the link to the video. I thought it was cute how towards the end of the clip, there was a shot of a multi-use path with a "rollerblader". Heh. I guess 50% of my wishes were answered.
